Official Biography of The Grand Lecturer

Right Worshipful Darryl R. Smith 33°

 Grand Inspector General Darryl R. Smith, the oldest son of Mr. & Mrs. John R. and Ida B. Smith, was born in Dayton, Ohio.  He attended Dayton Public Schools and graduated from Patterson Cooperative High School. 

Reverend Perry E. Henderson, Sr baptized Illustrious Smith at the age of ten in 1963 at Corinthian Baptist Church.  He has served a Co-Chairman of Men’s Day and supports and assists in many church programs. 

Illustrious Smith was a member of the Cub Scouts of America and a member of the YMCA of Dayton, Ohio. 

Illustrious Smith attended Sinclair Community College majoring in Commercial Art Technology and Business Law. He attended the Columbus State University and received a Certificate of Business Development. He holds Certification for Diamond Grading from the Gemological Institute of America and a Construction Management Certificate from the State of Ohio Department of Administrative Services, Equal Opportunity Division, Two Year Certificate from North Carolina State University Park and Recreation Maintenance Management School, Two Year Certificate of Completion Ohio Parks and Recreation Grounds and Facilities Maintenance Management School, Bachelor of Business Administration in Management, and Master of Business Administration in Operations Management. 

Illustrious Smith is employed by Five Rivers MetroParks. He is Assistant Park Manager for Adventure Central (a partnership with Ohio State University and 4-H Youth Development) and Wesleyan MetroParks.  He takes full advantage of opportunities to improve his Management and Supervisory skills by attending seminars, workshops, and volunteering to serve on programs. 

Within his community, Illustrious Smith serves as a member of the Montgomery County Democratic Executive Committee. He served as a Certified Mediator for the City of Dayton Mediation Center and served as a member of the Community Relations Council. He is an alumni member of the Gemological Institute of America and the Riverbend Arts Council.  He is an Honorable Kentucky Colonel, an Honorary Member of the Negro History Club of Alliance, Ohio; Past Chairman of  the First Dayton Little League Complex Board. Currently serving as an Adult Advisor to Adventure Central Youth Philanthropy Board Five Rivers MetroParks, a member of OPRA (Ohio Parks & Recreation Association, and a member of NRPA (National Recreation & Park Association).

 Illustrious Smith’s greatest role model is his father Illustrious John R. Smith, 33° and Past Master of Equity Lodge No. 121

 Illustrious Smith is married to the former Medoria L. Nalls. They together have one son Darryl R. Smith, II and five daughters Dionna N. Smith/Blake and son-in-law Courtney Blake, Dominique F. Smith, Sharail M. Nalls, Shereka M. Nalls, Shendorah M. Nalls, granddaughters Cameryn Ryan Blake, Sharia M. Nalls and grandsons Courtney Blake, II, James P. Shanklin, III and William D. Nalls-Oliver. 

Illustrious Smith’s hobbies include Mentoring Youth, Jewelry Manufacturing, Reading, Sports, Traveling and playing with his son and grand children.
